The Best Shoes for Hybrid Racing in 2027

Why a pure running shoe and a pure lifting shoe both fail on a hybrid course, and what to look for instead.
A hybrid race punishes specialised footwear. A stack-heavy carbon running shoe feels superb for the runs and terrible under a sled. A flat lifting shoe does the opposite.
Look for a moderate stack (20-28 mm), firm midsole foam, a grippy but not sticky outsole, and an upper that drains if your event has an outdoor segment.
Sled push is the deciding station. Test any shoe with a loaded push before racing in it — outsoles that grip on turf can slip badly on polished arena flooring.
Sizing up half a size helps with foot swelling over a sixty to ninety minute race, but only if the heel still locks in.
