HYROX vs DEKA vs ATHX: Which Hybrid Race Should You Pick?
Tuesday, 14 July 2026 · 3 min read · HybridRaceCalendar Editorial
Three of Europe's biggest hybrid formats compared on running volume, strength demand, team options and cost.
All three series look similar from the outside: functional stations, a clock and a lot of noise. The demands are genuinely different.
HYROX is the runner's race. Eight kilometres of running is more than half the total time for most athletes, so an aerobic background matters more than a big deadlift.
DEKA removes or shortens the running depending on the format you choose. DEKA STRONG in particular suits strength-biased athletes who want a hybrid race without a road-running base.
ATHX is the team entry point. If you want the atmosphere of hybrid racing without being alone on the floor for an hour, a team of two or four is the easiest first step.
If you are unsure, pick the race that is closest to home. Travel cost and logistics stop more first-timers than the workouts do.
